The Problem
Inc42 had massive media traffic and 60K+ articles but zero product revenue. Competitors like Tracxn charged $5K-$30K+/year with 7.5M companies. A significant gap existed: 500+ mid-tier Indian VC firms couldn't justify Tracxn's pricing but needed more than Crunchbase's free tier.
The Bet
PLG-first approach with a positioning no competitor could replicate: India's deepest regulatory data (MCA filings, PAS-3 cap tables), editorial intelligence (60K+ Inc42 articles via AI/RAG), and AI synthesis maturity — competing on intelligence, not information.
The Approach
Built everything from scratch with a 10-person team: multi-cloud architecture (Next.js + Go + MySQL + Elasticsearch + Kafka), Ask Datalabs AI (GPT-5.2 + RAG), 42-event analytics framework, reverse-trial PLG model, and organic growth engine using Inc42's media traffic as the acquisition funnel.
The Outcome
